B&T FTW: The 2016 “NYC Neighborhood of the Year” is… in Jersey?!?!

“The Sixth Borough” as all but an official designation at this point, as nearby Jersey City has been named as winner in the Curbed Cup – NYC Neighborhood of the Year competition. This marks the first time in the contest’s 13-year run that the winner is located outside of New York City.

According to Curbed:

“Jersey City mayor Steven Fulop got in on the Curbed Cup action urging JC residents to vote, which led the neighborhood across the Hudson to its stunning victory over the high-seeded Financial District. In the end, Jersey City walloped the Manhattan neighborhood, earning 73 percent of the vote.”

Anchoring the campaign on this side of the Hudson were our friends at Jersey Digs, a real estate site focusing on the Northern NJ scene—particularly Hoboken and JC.

“Curbed’s staff was surprised by the prominence of Jersey City in this year’s competition, mentioning the strong voter turnout from this side of the Hudson. Also surprised were some Curbed commenters, who took issue with Jersey City’s inclusion in the competition, as it’s not technically an NYC neighborhood,” says Jersey Digs. “For a city that’s been scoffed at by New Yorkers for decades, it seems we’re finally staking our claim in the NYC narrative.”

As 2017 gets underway, it certainly appears to be a dynamic time for the real estate market here on New Jersey’s Gold Coast…
