The past 18 months have seen an extraordinary amount of creativity and reinvention by ambitious individuals with phenomenal new ideas—particularly in the food category. However, food preparation in home kitchens can be limiting. When cooking up new ideas, it’s essential to have the right space.

Thanks to innovative design by Meredith Chartier, that space is available right here in Hudson County. Union City’s Bellamy Kitchen (913 New York Ave) offers not one, not two, but THREE different kitchen spaces—each with dedicated appliances, tables, and small wares—all for use by commercial chefs and bakers.

Chartier opened Bellamy Kitchen in 2018, after a searching for the ideal location and constructing the kitchens to suit a variety of needs. After starting a meal prep company in 2013, she had a difficult time finding rental commercial kitchen space that accommodated her scheduling and storage needs. Her husband Tom, meanwhile, has extensive experience in real estate development via the Chartier Group, and the search for her very own commercial kitchen space began.

The location at 913 New York Ave in Union City takes up two floors—a street-level unit, and basement operations. The three kitchens each have slightly different setups to accommodate the requirements of various clients, currently cooking up dinners, desserts, and delicious specialty foods in Bellamy’s meticulously maintained spaces. Fridge space, storage space and more are all available to clients based on their needs.

Scheduling is done electronically, and only one business can schedule a kitchen at a time. A variety of plans based on usage/capacity/frequency are available to fit almost any cooking business model.

Furthermore, Meredith shares her extensive knowledge of recipe development and food operations with all Bellamy Kitchen members. She also offers complimentary efficiency sessions, designed to help home grown businesses adjust to working in a commercial setting.

“Bellamy has given me the opportunity to scale my business on my time,” said client Michal Prevor, whose Babka Bailout will soon see a brick and mortar storefront opening up in Jersey City Heights.
