DIVERSE CITY: Jersey City Named as the Most Diverse Place in America

The tagline is #MakeItYours… and a lot of people from a lot of places have done just that.

Jersey City has just been named as the #1 most diverse city in America, according to WalletHub’s annual study—beating out neighboring New York City, which ranked 6th.

WalletHub compared more than 500 of the largest U.S. cities, examining each city based on ethnicity and race, language and birthplace. Jersey City’s total score was 95.74—nearly two full points higher than the 2nd place city, Gaithersburg, MD. Jersey City ranked second in ethnoracial diversity (the most heavily weighted category) and first in linguistic diversity.

“Over the last 20 years Jersey City has been one of the best city renaissance stories in the country,” says Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop. “I’m not saying that we don’t have lots more work to do but I am saying we have come a long way. One of the best parts of our city is the diversity of people and our city’s background as a strong immigrant community of people that just want to be part of the American Dream. That immigrant story is one of the main driving points of the city’s rebirth.”

“Thousands are sailing…”
