Hoboken American Legion Post 107 Hosts Membership Event — Monday, January 21 @ Elks Lodge

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day has come to known as a day of service to the community. Hoboken American Legion Post 107 has steadfastly been serving our community since 1921, and will gather this coming MLK Day to meet with potential new members.

Starting at 1:00 p.m. on January 21, the Post 107 will hold a membership outreach event at the Elks’ Club (1005 Washington Street)—as American Legion facility is currently in the final phases of its reconstruction. Nearly seven years after being heavily damaged by Hurricane Sandy, the new building will operate as a flood-resilient veterans’ community center while also serving as a 6-unit residential housing complex for homeless veterans.

“From our new facility to the many events we have planned for this coming year, this is an exciting time to be a part of Hoboken Post 107. As a kickoff for 2019, we invite the veteran community to gather and learn about all the great things going on with Hoboken Post 107,” said post representatives, in a conversation with hMAG. “We encourage those who aren’t currently to become a member of the Legion—come, bring a friend or tell a friend. Bring a copy of your DD 214 and we’ll get you signed up. And then, we’ll buy you a drink!”

The development of their new facility will provide not only a quality meeting place for Post 107 membership, but it will also deliver services and support to veteran members of the Hoboken community. The first of its kind in the country, developed with a “housing first” strategy, Hoboken Post 107 will now be equipped to address the myriad needs of our vets: providing safe, quality and affordable shelter, support and community, and an overall sense of well-being, self-sufficiency and esteem for those who cannot currently provide for themselves.

The American Legion and Hoboken Post 107 are committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.

Meanwhile, the Post is in the planning stages for many new events throughout the year to engage both veteran members and the Hoboken community at large. These include the Hoboken Post 107 Gala, the official HQ ribbon cutting ceremony, community service opportunities, regular Happy Hours at the new Post 107 Bar, official days of remembrance (Memorial Day, Veterans Day, D-Day, etc.) and group trips (i.e. Army-Navy Football game).
