So… whutz a mutz, you ask?
Welcome to Hoboken—you’re obviously new here.
A specialty of southern Italian cuisine, mozzarella is a type of semi-soft cheese found in basically everything, from pizza to salads to sandwiches.
In New Jersey, it’s never “mahtzoh-rella.” You’ll find that processed cheesefood further inland, on your Pizza Hut/Domino’s/Papa John’s slice. Around here, it’s mutz—and it’s spectacular.
Featuring five of Hoboken’s beloved Italian eateries, it should come as no surprise that tickets to the annual Hoboken MutzFest are among the most sought after in town. This celebration of the city’s world-renowned mozzarella features some creative dishes using melt-in-your-mouth handmade mutz, along with a delectable selection of signature menu items.
