GIVING TUESDAY: Hudson County Community Initiatives Invite Neighbors to #GiveLocal This Holiday Season
We all know the story—when you #ShopLocal, you make a bigger impact.
With Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday all behind us, many organizations in our area are hoping their neighbors can #GiveLocal—where they’ll see firsthand the immediate impact of their generosity.
Need a bit of guidance? Here’s a quick look at a number of prominent local initiatives that are doing great work in the Hoboken/Jersey City area:
Hoboken Shelter: Providing shelter to 50 people nightly, serving over 500 meals daily, hosting 1,000 showers weekly, the goal of the Hoboken Shelter is to end homelessness one person at a time. They provide such support services as food, shelter, case management, counseling, job and life skills training, creative arts workshops, emergency homelessness prevention grants, and permanent supportive housing solutions—all geared toward helping homeless guests develop the skills needed to gain employment, achieve independence, and re-integrate into the community.

Liberty Humane Society: Liberty Humane Society’s mission is to foster a community of compassion and respect, and provide animals in need with a chance at a lifelong, loving home. They care for, treat, and find homes for thousands of animals every year. Liberty Humane Society is an open admission shelter that contracts with Jersey City, Bayonne and Hoboken. This means that every stray animal found in these cities is brought to LHS, day or night. Rehoming animals who have nowhere else to go is one of the most urgent aspects of our mission, but our long-term goal is to build a community in which those services are no longer needed.
