“Essence” Opens at Hoboken’s hob’art gallery

“Essence,” an art exhibition by Miriam Untoria and Katie Duffy McGeehin, will be open to the public from August 14 through September 13 at the hob’art gallery, located in the Monroe Center of the Arts (720 Monroe Street, E208). The artists will present artwork in a variety of mediums including acrylic, mixed media, plaster, stone, and mortar.

The work of Miriam Untoria is comprised of a series of acrylic paintings and mixed-media pieces. Her paintings consist of portraits that take us through the artists’ life span, displaying an image of the artist at each decade of her life, while the mixed-media works reveal a more relaxed amusing side of the artist.

Katie Duffy McGeehin is a sculptor who works in plaster, stone, and mortar. Her carvings of human figures are gestural and expressive. The figures are often dancing, embracing, or meditating. Ms. McGeehin’s freestanding sculptures focus on human interactions and connections to one another, to oneself, and to the earth.

A reception to meet the artists will be held on Saturday, August 15, from 6-8pm. On Sunday, August 16, at 3:30pm, the artists will discuss their works and will welcome questions from visitors.
