BERN, BABY, BERN!!! Sanders Supporters to Hold Rally in Hoboken—SUNDAY
With the Voter Registration Deadline coming up on Tuesday, May 17th for next month’s New Jersey Primary, supporters of Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders are holding a rally Sunday right here in Hoboken.
Although Sanders will NOT be in attendance himself, supporters are set to gather at Pier A on the Hoboken Waterfront— Sunday at 12:30.
Speakers at the rally will include:
Eloy J. Delgado – Candidate for Congress- NJ’s 8th District
Jim Keady – Candidate for Congress- NJ’s 3rd District
Sameera Khan – Miss New Jersey United States 2015
Once assembled, the plan is to march uptown along Washington Street to Maxwell’s Tavern (1035 Washington Street).
“Our goal is to spread awareness that the Sanders campaign is on the ground in NJ, promote his policies, register/remind voters for this important election,” says Marc Adamo, a grassroots supporter of Sanders.
“Hoboken/Hudson County residents come from all corners of the nation to pursue careers in the NY Metro-area. For many people it will be their first presidential primary and election,” says Adamo.
As for the March up Washington Street, the City is prepared to accommodate the crowd.
“We wanted to be on the same page with officials in regard to safety and how to minimize inconvenience to the community. We have been in direct communication with Hoboken P.D. and are taking their recommendations seriously to make this a fun event for everyone,” says Adamo.
“As with any Grassroots event we are limited with funds and visibility is key. Our goal is to spread awareness that the Sanders campaign is on the ground in NJ, promote his policies, register/remind voters for this important election. A march up any other corridor, especially Clinton (pun intended), would be counterproductive.”
Despite media predictions and a controversial stonewalling within his own party, Sanders still has a chance to secure the nomination, which would put him in a contest against presumptive GOP nominee Donald J. Trump. Recent polls give Sanders a 12-point lead in a head-to-head contest against Trump.
“Bernie himself has stated he has a narrow path to victory and we have been fighting an uphill battle from day one, our goal is to help increase his chances of navigating that path as well as promoting his ideas,” says Adamo. “History will look back at Bernie Sanders and view him as a winner regardless of who the nation chooses on Nov. 8, 2016. He has done so much in raising awareness of the issues being faced by the common people of this nation who seek justice, equality, compassion and opportunity for all, he has energized and inspired voters, and has given birth to a Political Revolution that is making the Establishment shake in its boots!”
