Body of Missing Person Recovered Off Pier A in Hoboken

On Wednesday, units from the North Hudson Regional Rescue Task Force, New Jersey State Police, NJ Transit Police, Hoboken Police, Hoboken Fire Department and Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit worked to recover a body from the Hudson River off of Pier A in Hoboken.

The body has since been identified as that of 27 year-old Maryland resident Jamie Kwebetchou, who was last seen on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 12:15 a.m. at the Wicked Wolf Tavern on Hoboken’s Waterfront.


Officials have been in contact with next of kin prior to releasing a statement. At 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez‘s office released the following information:

On Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at approximately 2:48 p.m., the Hoboken Police Department
received a report of a body floating in the Hudson River near the Lackawanna Ferry Station in
Hoboken.

Responding Hoboken police officers, along with NJ Transit police officers and the Hudson
County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, found the lifeless body as reported. The body of a
male was removed from the water and secured by Hoboken Fire Department Rescue Team
members operating a rescue boat.

The deceased has been identified as Jaime Kwebetchou, age 27, from Maryland, a man who was
reported missing by his family on May 9, 2019. He was pronounced dead at the scene at
approximately 3:55 p.m.

The exact cause and manner of death is pending the findings of the Regional Medical
Examiner’s Office.

The Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case with assistance from the
Hoboken Police Department. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Office of the
