BOX BANDITS BUSTED: Hoboken Police Continue Efforts to Thwart Package Theft
Christmas has come and gone, but in Hoboken the Grinch is seemingly working overtime, as package theft continues to be a costly nuisance.
The Hoboken Police Department made two more arrests last week, as “porch pirates” were busted absconding with packages from residential buildings.
On December 28, 2019, at about 3:20AM, Hoboken Police Officer John Hermann and Officer Kyle Seper responded to a building near Newark and Park Avenue. A caller had heard banging coming from the foyer area and observed an unknown male fleeing with packages. Officer Hermann and Officer Seper found Juan Jimenez, 42 of Jersey City, in the area of 2nd and Clinton Street and he was in possession of packages from that building and a second location. Jimenez also had Burglar’s Tools and Drug Paraphernalia. He was charged accordingly and transported to the Hudson County Jail.
On Monday, December 30, 2019, at about 3:00 AM, Hoboken Police Lt. Keith Rotondi observed Joel Arece, 33 of Hoboken, as he walked into a residential building in the area of 3rd and Willow Avenue with a tote bag. When Arece left the building, the tote bag appeared be fuller. Lt. Rotondi could hear packages being ripped open as he approached Arece. He was charged with Burglary & Theft, and transported to the Hudson County Jail.
Residents are asked to remain vigilant regarding packages, and to report any theft to the Hoboken PD.
