Former Maxwell’s Sound Man Gregg Sgar Advances to the Final Round of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest—VOTE NOW

Local musician Gregg Sgar from Roseland NJ, is a Session II grand prize winner for the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

His song, “Block the Sun”, was written and performed by himself—along with longtime childhood friend and Roseland native, Matt Mitchell, and co-writers Austin Zudeck, Justin Thunstrom, and Ben Antelis.

“Block the Sun” is one step away from being voted ‘Song of the Year’ where it gets judged by a panel including Flea (The Red Hot Chili Peppers), Fergie, Lita Ford, and Bob Weir, to name a few. Gregg and co-writers must first have the peoples vote to move on to the “Song of the Year” final round. You can vote for Gregg Sgar once a day until April 30th by following this link: www.jlsc.com/vote

Gregg is a fixture in the Northern New Jersey music scene as an artist, performer, producer, and engineer. As a guitarist for rock outfit One Hundred Thousand, house sound engineer for recently closed Maxwell’s Tavern in Hoboken, and the rebranded “Debonair Music Hall” in Teaneck.

Gregg seems to be making the right noise. He is also involved in production and co-writing for other artists with pending releases from other local and regional musicians like Adam Schlett of NJ’s Deaf Rhino, a Hoboken scenester Dave Entwistle, and up and coming pop act Heather LaRose.

“Block the Sun” focuses on addressing whatever is holding one back from being who they really are.

You’re in it for the fame
That wasn’t the issue.
You’re colder than the shade
You’re boxing me into.
You will never change, and that’s why I loved you.
But I can’t let you Block the Sun.

Voting for Gregg and the “Block the Sun” is open through April 30. Voted daily at www.jlsc.com/vote. Winners receive opportunities to work with top tier production talent along with thousands of dollars in studio gear. Gregg has only released a few tunes without being under the guise of a larger band, given the success of his initial push there is no doubt the world will hear more of Gregg’s pop centric sound.

Gregg Is in the studio currently with his projects, One Hundred Thousand and a soon to be announced duo with Matt Pelosi, recording their new material expected to be released in a couple of months.
