FRIDAYS ARE FOR FRANK: “I Wish You Love” (feat. the Count Basie Orchestra)
“I wish you health,
and more than wealth,
I wish you love…”
Discourse in this country is plunging to new depths, as we’re locked in a death-spiral of ruthlessness. Fighting hate with hate just means more hate.
Someone has to be the good guy here… so we listen to Frank.
“Goodbye, no use leading with our chins, this is where our story ends,
Never lovers ever friends…”
“I Wish You Love” comes from the phenomenal It Might as Well Be Swing album (1964), with Frank Sinatra accompanied by Count Basie. It was Sinatra’s first studio recording arranged by Quincy Jones.
The song itself is a French popular song, with music by Léo Chauliac & Charles Trenet and lyrics by Charles Trenet. Which makes sense, as it was the French who coined the phase “c’est la vie” after all.
“Most of all, when snowflakes fall,
I wish you love.”
Right back atcha, Frank…
Let’s try to keep our heads up, and still be decent to each other.
