#GoBoken: Hoboken Business Alliance Launches 2020 Campaign

The Hoboken Business Alliance (HBA) announced the launch of the Go(Ho)boken (#GoBoken) campaign, a city-wide, summer-long themed initiative encouraging Mile Square residents to shop local and support Hoboken businesses. The campaign coincides with the re-opening of indoor retail and outdoor dining across New Jersey in an effort to help stimulate spending.

“With many businesses closed or operating at a limited capacity over the last few months, the pandemic has had a tremendous financial impact,” says Gregory Dell’Aquila, President of the Hoboken Business Alliance. “Small businesses are the heart of our economy, and they have been fighting for survival. If we want to help our small shops, restaurants, and businesses to have a fighting chance; we have to take action right now. We’re encouraging the community to rally for our Hoboken businesses, and show support in any way we can.”

The #GoBoken campaign will run throughout the summer with various themes (e.g. Summer-Spirited BBQ, Picnic in the Park, Kid-Palooza, Sinatra Celebration) to remind the Hoboken community to support local shops, restaurants, and establishments in any way and as often as they can. The HBA has designed the campaign to continuously spotlight a diverse mix of businesses with unique product and service offerings.

The first #GoBoken themed-promotion “7th Inning Stretch” will kick-off Friday, June 19  in conjunction with Mile Square Theatre’s annual variety show, “7th Inning Stretch: from the dugout.”  This popular performance has been running since 2003 in the birthplace of baseball, (Hoboken) and is going virtual for the first time from June 19-21. The cast features a roster of celebrated Playwrights and Actors such as Gary Kroeger (“Saturday Night Live”), Michael Emerson (“Person of Interest,” “Lost”), Thomas Lennon (“Reno 911”), Jim Vallance (Songwriter: Summer of ’69; What About Love), Adam Ottavino (New York Yankees), and more!

Pay-what-you-will virtual tickets to support Mile Square Theatre start at just $20 and are available at milesquaretheatre.org.  Once purchased, audience members will be emailed a link through which the stream may be accessed.

To complement the entertainment, several local restaurants such as Carpe Diem (choose from four dishes under $15), Elysian Cafe (a three-course meal under $25) and Northern Soul (a spin on the traditional hotdog), will offer the virtual theatre audience some baseball-inspired favorites to grab before or during the show. To accompany these great bites, Wine Dad’s is offering a drink duo, featuring a new beer from 902 Brewing called ‘Daddy Daycare’ and ‘Galaxy Dust’ from Hoboken Brewery.

Several retailers will also offer baseball-inspired merchandise. Hoboken baseball hats in both youth and adult sizes are available to purchase in-store (and call ahead) at Stan’s Sports Center. The Local Thread has designed a three-quarter-sleeve “Hoboken” shirt for those wishing to sport their love for the Mile Square City.

Proceeds from the sale of Hoboken baseball shirts from The Local Thread will go to the Hoboken Relief Fund, an organization that supports independently-owned Hoboken businesses and Hoboken residents who have suffered an adverse economic impact as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For any businesses interested in participating in an upcoming #GoBoken promotion, fill out the form HERE. There is no fee to participate, and spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The goal of this campaign through the HBA is to spotlight as many businesses as possible.
