Hoboken Wine Group’s Cheese + Wine Event

Hoboken Wine Group’s Cheese + Wine Event

The Hoboken Wine Group (HWG) hosted a massively popular and sold out wine and food pairing event at “Cheese + Wine” on October 8th. Tucked away in the back of town in the multi-use Monroe Center at this must-checkout, gem of a spot, the evening was a walk around tasting of culinary delights and small production wines from all over the vinous world. HWG members Tom Kobylarz (founder), Chef Julie Hartigan, and Certified Sommelier Mike Crummet put their heads together to come up with some classic (and a few not so classic) food and wine pairings to thrill their guests’ palates.

HWG member and professional chef/recipe developer Julie Hartigan designed the culinary delights for the evening’s elaborate 10 course tasting menu. A Hoboken resident and one of hMAG’s recent “Hoboken Women to Watch,” Julie is a former engineer who pursued her passion for all things food, cooking, and entertaining to attend culinary school. She concocted incredible custom dishes and also several featuring goodies available right at “Cheese + Wine”. Be sure to check out JulieHartigan.com where she’ll be sharing many of her recipes for the event including Moroccan Lamb Meatballs w/ Pomegranate Molasses, Umami Bombs w/ Truffle Pecorino, and Spiced Veggie Dumplings w/ Wasabi Aioli.

Tom and Mike worked the floor pouring these spectacular wines for the guests.   As they worked the crowd, they provided deep notes on the wine details and the pairing qualities of the foods. All of the wines for the evening were in the high value price point of $12-25 and are available for purchase at the shop.

The HWG is a nomad tasting group founded in 2014 by local residents Tom Kobylarz (Wine Solutions) and Javier Martinez (Sparrow Wines) that takes advantage of many of the BYOB restaurants in town to host themed wine tasting events. Welcome to all levels of wine appreciation, all you need to participate in most of the HWG events is a great bottle of wine to share with the group.

To sign up for future events you can find the group on Facebook at “The Hoboken Wine Group.”
