Want to start a fight in Hoboken? Ask three people where to find the best mozzarella cheese (“mutz”), and then just walk away…
Hoboken’s grand mutz tradition is legendary, with folks traveling from far and wide to get some of the freshest, creamiest, gooey goodness in the world. Mutzfest came about as a way to acknowledge the world-class craftsmanship of our local Italian delis. The event was initially a contest to crown the best mutz in Hoboken—but when that got too contentious (true story), the decision was made to make it an overall celebration of the glory that is mutz.
The year, the 8th Annual Hoboken Mutzfest returns to the Elk’s Club (1005 Washington Street) on Sunday, January 26, and features some of the city’s top eateries serving up their own special homemade mozzarella and a selection of signature menu items.
All event proceeds benefit the Hoboken Family Alliance and its programs to support children with special needs—including Hoboken Bike Camp for individuals with disabilities—along with the organization’s community-wide philanthropic efforts.
Some of Hoboken’s most renowned mutz-makers will be participating in this annual classic that brings together local small businesses and the community at large—bound by their love for mutz.
The 2018 lineup includes:
- Dolce & Salato (1101 Grand St.)
- Frankie & Ava’s (208 Washington St.)
- Losurdo Bros. (410 2nd St.)
- M&P Biancamano (1116 Washington St.)
- Tony Boloney’s (263 1st St).
