RAVE: Blue Eyes Café
story and photo by Diana Schwaeble
Anchored on the scenic Hoboken Waterfront is Blue Eyes Café, an Italian eatery that serves rich pastas, savory pizzas baked in the wood fire oven, desserts, and of course—all things Frank. This new restaurant can’t claim that Frank once ate here, drank here, or even visited, but he probably would have applauded the understated elegance and the superb musical selection. (On the night I was there, Sinatra crooned from the speakers…)
With friendly service, and an interesting drink menu, this is a good place to unwind while contemplating the desserts—all baked at the owner’s sister restaurant and worth every decadent calorie. The tiramisu is spectacular! You can taste the espresso in every bite. Layered with mascarpone cheese and dusted with cocoa powder, it was the perfect finish.
Wine, beer, and specialty cocktails are available. There is even a Blue Eyes cocktail made with mango nectar and prosecco—it is light, fruity, refreshing and reasonably priced. The spectacular view of Frank Sinatra Park and the Manhattan skyline are free.
The café is open for lunch and dinner (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday the restaurant is open until 11 p.m. Located at 525 Sinatra Drive. Walk-ins are welcome.
