Never run with scissors—we all know that. Also, never threaten a person with scissors. That lesson was learned the hard way this weekend following a disturbing incident at a Hoboken bodega.

On Saturday, April 25 at 1:08 p.m., Hoboken Police Officer Wilfredo Gomez, Officer Nathanial Arocho, and Officer Cynthia Rivera responded to a call at Garden Sunshine Deli Grocery (240 Garden Street) in which an employee was allegedly threatened by a costumer brandishing red-handled scissors. Upon arrival, officers noticed a male walking north from said location matching the description, who then started to run.

Officer Arocho and Officer Rivera were able to catch up to the suspect—identified as Victor Colon, 35, Hoboken, in the area of 209 4th Street. The store employee informed Officer Gomez that an argument started between him and Colon, which carried outside and then back into the store. During the argument, the victim stated that Colon made threats against his life and brandished a pair of scissors with red handles. Upon investigation, officers found the scissors… and Colon was caught red-handled.

Colon resisted arrest and Officer Rivera sustained minor injuries in his apprehension. Colon was transported to headquarters and processed—charged with Terroristic Threats, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Resisting Arrest, and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. Colon also had a warrant out of Union City, NJ. Colon was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

Officer Rivera was provided medical care and returned to full duty with no restrictions.
