WHEELS OF JUSTICE: Bike Thieves Busted in Hoboken

Would-be bike thieves “spoke” too soon when they tried wheeling and dealing their way out of a run-in with Hoboken Police.

On Wednesday June 5th 2019, Hoboken Police Officer Christopher Hatfield was flagged down by a male who witnessed Ruangpat Ochajaroen, age 39, of East Rutherford allegedly steal a bicycle from a parking garage.

Officer Hatfield stopped Ochajaroen, who initially claimed to be the owner of the bike. Meanwhile Anthony Hernandez, age 25, of Jersey City stood nearby next to two other bicycles. As the two gave conflicting answers about their relationship, members of the Investigations Bureau arrived on scene and Det. Arturo Gonzalez was able to identify both males from a previous Burglary and Theft.

Eventually it was determined that they were involved in taking the bicycles on the scene, and they were both placed under arrest. A subsequent search found them to be in possession of tools used to assist in committing the crimes. They were then transported to headquarters for processing.

Ochejaroen was additionally charged with Burglary and Theft for and incident that took place during the month of May in which Det. Michael Losurdo had investigated. They were both later remanded to the Hudson County Rehabilitation Center.
