“Say, what’s in that drink?”
Meant to be lighthearted and playful, shifting social norms have painted this 1944 Frank Loesser song as one of the creepiest of all time… and it’s tough not to raise an eyebrow or two with these lyrics. What may have been considered flirtatious in the Eisenhower era is a minefield by modern standards.
Nevertheless, the song remains as part of our cultural canon, if only for the “WTF” factor.
Today it’s particularly relevant, because “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”
