FRIDAYS ARE FOR FRANK: “You Brought A New Kind of Love to Me”
“And if the sandman brought me dreams of you
I’d want to sleep my whole life through
You brought a new love to me…”
Look—we’re all pretty emotional around here, with the grand opening of Hoboken’s Trader Joe’s. We dare say, love is in the air…
“You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me” is a pop song from 1930, written by Sammy Fain, Irving Kahal, and Pierre Norman. Since Fain was primarily a music writer and Kahal a lyricist, it may be assumed that the music was by Fain and lyrics were by Kahal, with Norman’s contribution uncertain.
Sinatra recorded a version for his 1956 album Songs for Swingin’ Lovers—arranged by Nelson Riddle.
As for Trader Joe’s, legions of devotees seem so eager to spend some quality time with the one they love…
“I would work and slave the whole life through
If I could hurry home to you
You brought a new kind of love to me.”
