New York man Darrell Rude, 33, certainly lived up to his name as he allegedly spit and coughed on Hoboken Police Officers early this morning after smashing a liquor store window and grabbing bottles and cigarettes.

Shortly after midnight, Hoboken Police Department responded to Daniel’s Liquors & Wines (87 Garden Street) on the report of a burglary in progress. A male had reportedly shattered a glass window then fled from the scene.

While searching the area Sergeant Luke Zeszotarski and Officer Francis McCourt saw a male fitting the description walking in the area of 2nd and Court Street, and as they approached him they noticed multiple liquor bottles and cigarette boxes sticking out of the front pouch of his backpack.

Rude was arrested, and while being processed, he began to purposely cough in the direction of officers. During this time he advised officers that he has bronchitis and COVID-19. Officers attempted to place masks on Mr. Rude however he would violently bite them off each time.

Rude continued his uncooperative behavior, coughing at officers and refusing to follow any commands. He refused to be fingerprinted or provide necessary arrest information.
