On Friday, June 2nd, 65 Mustard Seed School second-and-third-grade students will hold a walkathon to raise money to help one of their teachers.

1458480_10152166334154668_1697344654_nFrom the moment they heard that a bank foreclosed on the house of a beloved teacher, Raini Webb, and her family, students wanted to do something. They’ve been studying the history of Hoboken this year and participating in “Hoboken walks.” It seemed natural to hold a walkathon around the four-mile perimeter of the town.

“I’m so proud of our students for taking action to help a family in need,” says Head of School Tom Postema. “It’s what you do when you’re a part of a community: you serve those around you. This just might be the most important lesson students learn this year.”

Funds raised by the walkathon will go directly to the Webb family to ease the burden of excessive medical costs. Students also hope to raise enough money to allow the family to move out of temporary housing into a more permanent situation. Other Mustard Seed classes and school families have banded together to pledge support.

Members of the community can read more about the Webb family and make a donation at https://www.gofundme.com/vickiwebb.
