STAR-SPANGLED SPIRIT: Hoboken Artist Andrea Kroenig Evokes Women’s March in New Exhibit @ Field Colony

“Liberty”

Andrea Kroenig is a Hoboken artist who combines graffiti with portraits and the human figure in her latest series of works on display at Field Colony Downtown (33 Newark Street). Her deep passion for social justice contributes to her meaningful work in this display, titled “Star-Spangled Spirit”—inspired by recent women’s marches in New York City and nationwide.

Says HobokenArts, “Much of Andrea’s art centers around human emotion—whether it be an expression of her own or to be stirred within the viewer. In her self-portraits we witness her bold use of color and the medium directly complementing the figure portrayed within. Cooler tones for reflection turn into vivid reds for intense rage shout out at the viewer. The added combination of dramatic brush strokes or use of spray paint with casual dripping captures the raw nature of the artist’s inner self directly translated into her artwork.”

In conjunction with the upcoming 4th annual Women’s March and the 100th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage + Right to Vote, Kroenig’s mixed media paintings (spray-paint, acrylic, pastel, charcoal) have come from a year-long process and focus on images portraying the human spirit of Equality, Justice, Liberty in a unique expressive style using both fine art and street art techniques.
