FRIDAYS ARE FOR FRANK: “My Baby Just Cares For Me”
It’s Black Friday, which means a disappointingly large segment of or population is in stores right now, fighting it out for the best deals on items meant to impress our loved ones.
But not Frank… his baby just cares for him.
My baby don’t care for furs and laces,
My baby don’t care for high toned places.
My baby don’t care for rings, or other expensive things.
She’s sensible as can be.
A jazz standard written by Walter Donaldson, with lyrics by Gus Kahn, “My Baby Just Cares For Me” was first performed in 1930, but later found its eternal fame after Nina Simone’s 1958 version off her debut album Little Girl Blue.
Here’s Frank Sinatra, from the 1966 studio album Strangers In The Night.
“My baby don’t care who knows it, my baby just cares for me…”
