Fridays Are For Frank: “Ring-a-Ding-Ding!”

Last Friday would have been Francis Albert Sinatra‘s 99th birthday—which means we here at hMAG.com are showing up a little late to the party… or we’re getting an early start on his 100th.

Each and every Friday, we will feature a song* by Frank Sinatra (who hails from 415 Monroe Street) as a simple reminder to us all that, “It’s Sinatra’s World, We Just Live in It”…

“Ring-a-Ding-Ding!” is the title track off Sinatra’s 1961 album—the first to be released by his Reprise label—which more or less set the tone for the Rat Pack era. The idea was “an album without ballads”, offering only uptempo swing numbers.

The song itself was written specifically for Sinatra by Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen. “Ring-a-Ding-Ding!” reached No. 4, and managed to maintain a 35 week stay on the charts.

Better than any cup of coffee on a Friday morning, here’s “Ring-a-Ding-Ding!”

For more information on Sinatra, visit the Hoboken Historical Museum (1301 Hudson Street).
