The Hoboken Fire Department battled a two-alarm blaze in the Senior Housing building at 76 Bloomfield Street early this morning.
With the call coming in at 5:01 a.m., units were on the scene by 5:03, and managed to snuff out what could have been a potentially devastating fire.
“Group C did a tremendous job, keeping it confined to the room of origin,” said Hoboken Fire Chief Brian Crimmins.

The fire, which began on the fifth floor, is currently under investigation. Adding to the complexities of the call, COVID-19 protocols required extra measures to ensure safety of the senior residents.
“Three residents were treated on the scene, while other residents were sheltered in the community room and offsite,” said Crimmins. “Hoboken Police and the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps were on the scene to address the needs of the residents. One apartment currently remains displaced.”
Furthermore, an investigator was involved in a two-car accident on 14th Street, en route to the fire scene. Both cars were significantly damaged, but the occupants reportedly refused medical attention.
