Hoboken, Jersey City Cops Taking Meds This Weekend
On Saturday, October 26, the Hoboken Police Department and the Jersey City Police Department will be working alongside the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office to participate in the “National Take Back Initiative,” which is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Agency.
Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States continue to be alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. The majority of prescription drug abusers say they get their drugs free from friends and family—including from the home medicine cabinet.
Take Back Day is a unique opportunity for Americans to protect their homes and medicine cabinets from theft and abuse. The nationwide initiative, taking place on Saturday, October 26 between the hours of 10am and 2pm, aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
