THE KENNEDYS @ GUITAR BAR JR.: Nationally Renowned Folk/Pop Duo to Play Intimate Hoboken Show—SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23
by Jack Silbert
Roger McGuinn of The Byrds is a fan, Steve Earle is a fan, and — full disclosure — so is the writer of this article. On Saturday, February 23, The Kennedys’ east coast tour makes a stop at Hoboken’s own Guitar Bar Jr. (203 11th Street, Hoboken).
Pete and Maura Kennedy have been releasing critically-acclaimed albums since 1995. Their most recent, “Safe Until Tomorrow”, came out last spring. It’s filled with the ringing guitars and beautiful harmonies that have long been the hallmark of the husband-and-wife duo. Earlier in their musical career, they spent two stints as members of Nanci Griffith’s band, and were also hosts of the beloved Sirius Satellite Radio program Dharma Café.
The Kennedys’ upcoming appearance is just the latest in an ongoing series of top acts in the Guitar Bar Jr’s extremely intimate setting. (Previous shows have featured performers such as Garland Jeffreys, Jill Sobule, and Freedy Johnston.) “We’re very happy to have the Kennedys here,” says Guitar Bar owner James Mastro. “They’re the perfect combination of great songs, great singing, and great musicianship — the old triple threat.”
This coming fall, you can also join the group on a fan cruise to Havana, if “Kennedy” and “Cuba” doesn’t conjure too much history for you…
