Pack of Prying Porch Pirates Pinched by Police in Hoboken

With most people staying inside, and a huge uptick in deliveries due to COVID-19, package thieves are keeping themselves busy.

On Friday, April 10, Officer Samuel Flores was on patrol when he was flagged down by an employee of a residential building located on the 100 block of Harrison Street. At about 12:30 AM that morning, three unidentified parties pried their way into the building and stole packages. Two of the thieves worked on prying the door open as the third appeared to be a lookout.

After causing damage to the front door and doors leading into the lobby, they began to open packages and place the contents into bags before exiting the building one at a time with those items in their possession.

Hoboken Police

Detective Fabian Quinones investigated and was able to identify the three parties as: Elias Abreu, 34 of Jersey City; Jessica Kottori, 37 of Jersey City; and Jasmine Santiago, 34 of Jersey City.

Detective Quinones then discovered that the alleged thieves took the proceeds to the 300 block of Marshall Drive in Hoboken, where they interacted with: Juana McCall, 54 of Hoboken; Ricardo Burgos, 57 of Hoboken; and Mario Cruz, 34 of Jersey City. At about 1:20 a.m., the proceeds of the theft were then carried out of the apartment to a silver vehicle, placed in the trunk and a short time later driven off with Cruz in the front passenger seat.

On April 27, 2020, Detective Quinones filed charges and placed them all on summonses.

Abreu, Kottori, and Santiago were charged with Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, Theft, Criminal Mischief, Burglar’s Tool, and Fencing.

McCall, Burgos, and Cruz were charged with Fencing and Receiving Stolen Property.
