Wild Car Crash in Hoboken as Driver Careens Through Streets, Sidewalks

A driver fled a collision on 1st & Bloomfield Streets in Hoboken, only to continue through the City’s main thoroughfare and drive down the sidewalk, eventually ending his flight as he slammed into a brick building on the corner of 1st & Hudson after stiking a pedestrian—half a block from the Hoboken Police Department.

The driver is in custody and an investigation is ongoing. A pedestrian who has sustained “multiple injuries” has been transported to Jersey City Medical Center.

Full Statement from the Hoboken Police Department, released at 5:05 p.m.:

On Tuesday April 16th, 2019 just before 3:00 pm, a vehicle on vehicle accident occurred on 1st & Bloomfield Street.

A black Honda Accord fled the scene traveling east on 1st Street. Upon reaching Washington Street, the vehicle drove onto the sidewalk and continued to travel east on First Street striking a pedestrian near the south west corner of 1st & Hudson Street. The vehicle came to a stop when it struck a building at 99 Hudson Street. The two individuals on 1st & Bloomfield Street were not injured. The pedestrian was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center with multiple injuries. The driver of the vehicle was placed under arrest. The Hudson County Regional Collision Unit is currently on scene to investigate the accident.

Any further information including charges the driver faces will be released by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.
