Hoboken Police have made an arrest following a brazen theft outside a fast-food restaurant.

According to HPD, Officer Ricky Truppner and Officer Marvin DeJesus responded to 234 Washington Street early Sunday, where an Uber-Eats delivery driver reported his vehicle stolen after leaving it running and unoccupied when he entered the McDonald’s at that address to pick up an order. At about 3:47 AM, , the victim observed an unknown female with blonde hair enter his vehicle and drive south on Washington Street. At about 4:11 AM, Hudson County Sheriffs located the vehicle in Union City in the area of 15th and Kennedy Boulevard, with the keys in the ignition.

Following and investigation, Hoboken Police Detective Adam Colon charged Diana Penaherrera, 31, of Union City, with Burglary and Theft of Movable Property. Penaherrera was also issued a motor vehicle summons for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Licenses.

The victim of the motor vehicle theft was issued a summons for leaving his vehicle running and unoccupied.

Just last week, Hoboken Police issued a statement specifically warning motorists about leaving their cars running.

“This year we already had 5 cars reported stolen as of 01/29/2020. Of those five vehicles, 2 of were left running and unoccupied and one had the keys stored inside,” said HPD. “To be clear, it remains the responsibility of the owner/operator to turn off their vehicle, lock the doors and take their keys with them. Please help us keep our city streets safe.”
