Hoboken Police Nab Driver for DWI… In a School Zone… With a Passenger On His Roof
(ABOVE: from Teen Wolf—1985)
We all remember watching the movie Teen Wolf, where Michael J. Fox was riding around on the roof of the van, and we thought, “Yeah man, that’s awesome!”
As it turns out, the Hoboken Police don’t agree.
Just before 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, HPD Officers Soto and Rutkowski spotted a 2007 BMW traveling south on Washington Street at a high rate of speed. Laughing squarely in the face of the laws of both Hoboken and Natural Selection, there was a passenger sitting on the roof of the vehicle.
The vehicle was stopped near first and Washington—essentially in one of the most highly patrolled areas in town. Officers were able to detect a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. The driver also had slurred speech and droopy eyes. A field sobriety test was conducted which he was not able to complete. Khaled Makhlouf, age 37, of Dumont, was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing and to provide a breath sample. The person riding the roof was identified as Hassan Ali, age 27 from Wallington. He was issued a summons for Disorderly Conduct.
Remember kids, don’t try this at home…
