Mile Square Theatre Presents “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in Hoboken’s Sinatra Park
Mayor Dawn Zimmer, The City of Hoboken, and Hudson County are proud to host Mile Square Theatre’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, premiering on Wednesday Night at 8 pm at Sinatra Park. The production will also run from July 25-28, August 1-4, and August 8 and 9, all at 8 pm. Admission is free to the general public.
In honor of Frank Sinatra’s centennial, Mile Square Theatre’s (MST) version of the Shakespearian comedy will be set in the 1950s along the Hudson River waterfront. Additionally, all music will be traditional Sinatra songs and many of the actors will have New Jersey accents. The play has a unique twist to the famous Shakespeare play in which four young Athenian lovers are manipulated by fairies while the fairy king and queen feud in the forest.
MST Artistic Director Chris O’Connor will direct the project, in which the Associate Artistic Director Matthew Lawler, an actor who has recently been in movies such as Knight and Day, Grand Theft Auto V and God’s Pocket, will star as Bottom. The cast also includes Dillon Heape of the American Conservatory Theater as Oberon, Aaliyah Habbeeb of the Mixed Blood Theater as Tatiana, and Lou Carbonneau, who has recently had roles on “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Law and Order,” as Peter Quince.
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is part of the City of Hoboken’s Summer Enchanted Evenings, which includes concerts, movies, and family activities, all free of charge to the public. The City and Hudson County provided financial support to assist in the production of the play. Additional sponsors include the Rockefeller Group and Bijou Properties.
Mile Square Theatre is a leading Northern New Jersey regional theatre based in Hoboken, whose mission is to produce contemporary and classical works, while advancing theatre arts education for adults and children.
