San Giuseppe Zeppole: Celebrating St. Joseph’s Day in Hoboken

Today is La Festa di San Giuseppe, or St. Joseph’s Day, which is widely celebrated by Catholics in the Italian community. In fact, St. Joseph is the patron saint of Sicily.

Rather than the wearing o’ the green, which was two days ago, today the Italians traditionally wear red. Instead of corned beef and cabbage, it’s fava beans (with a nice Chianti?) and seafood. Lemons are also supposed to bring good luck (Limoncello?)—but above all, the best part of the day is the zeppole.

Here in Hoboken, both Carlo’s Bakery (94 Washington Street) and Giorgio’s Bakery (1112 Washington) are proudly catering to “the Feast of San Giuzeppole.”

Get there soon, while supplies last!!!
