Central to the Hoboken community is its vibrant hospitality industry—so it only makes sense that the hospitality industry would come together to toast the Hoboken Community Center.

Formerly known as the Hoboken North-Hudson YMCA, the Hoboken Community Center has been a community treasure for over 135 years, providing affordable housing for nearly 100 men, many of them veterans. Thanks to a recent “giveback” from developers, the focus is to once again serve the entire community as a recreation center—which will include program spaces, a pool, basketball court and track.

To that end, the Hoboken Community Center is hosting the 25th “A Taste of Hoboken” event—featuring live music, wine, beer, and cuisine tastings from Hoboken’s top restaurants. The event will be held on Tuesday, March 19 in the Howe Center’s Bissinger Room at Stevens Institute of Technology, featuring magnificent Manhattan skyline views.

Venues participating in this year’s A Taste of Hoboken include Amanda’s, Anthony David’s, Antique Bar & Bakery, bwè kafe, Carlo’s Bakery, Charrito’s, Choc-O-Pain, Court Street, Cucharamama, Elysian Cafe, Karma Kafe, La Isla, Leo’s Grandevous, Losurdo Bros., The Madison Bar & Grill, Seven Valleys, Tutta Pesca, Zafra and more.

Beverages will be supplied by Giannone Liquors, and the event is sponsored in part by Bijou Properties.

Choc-O-Pain

“The renaissance of Hoboken has seen many great things like the restoration of the waterfront, several new parks and the addition of the light rail on the west side. What Hoboken still desperately needs is a community center that serves everyone,” said Ken Nilsen, president of the Hoboken Community Center. “With broad support from our elected leaders and members of the community, we have real momentum towards restoring and reopening the recreational facilities at the former Y. All proceeds from A Taste of Hoboken will go toward that effort.”

The event begins with a “Prosecco Preview” at 6:00 pm, where guests pay a premium to be in a less crowded room and an opportunity to mingle and talk to chefs and other restaurant representatives about their cuisine. General admission begins at 7:00 pm, and the event runs until 9:00 pm.

Live music will be provided by Hoboken’s own Swingadelic – the NYC area’s greatest “little big band.”
