It’s Valentine’s Day, So Let’s Be Frank… “I’ve Got a Crush on You”

“The world will pardon my mush…”

There are hundreds of songs we could go with today—because we all know Frank’s a big ol’ softee…

“It’s not that you’re attractive,
but oh my heart grew active
when you came into view.”

Nice… okay, not always the smoothest. That line’s obviously the precursor to Springsteen’s “You ain’t a beauty but hey, you’re alright.” Those Jersey guys really know how to make a girl feel special…

But you can’t blame Frank for that one. George and Ira Gershwin wrote “I’ve Got A Crush on You” back in 1928, and managed to work into a pair of musicals—Treasure Girl (1928) and Strike Up the Band (1930).

It soon became a jazz standard, with Frank doing versions in 1947 and on his 1960 Nice & Easy album.

With this version, from the seminal 1966 live album Sinatra At The Sands, we get to listen to Frank Sinatra doing what he does best—working the room and playing it so absolutely cool, yet still letting “the many millions of Anabelles and Lillians” know he’s thinking of them…

Happy Valentine’s Day, Hoboken…
