FRIDAYS ARE FOR FRANK: “One For My Baby” (Live at the Sands)
“Set ’em up Joe…”
It’s been one of those weeks. Sometimes, we just need a slow, stiff drink… and then another one.
Here’s “One More for My Baby (and One More for the Road),” from the celebrated 1966 live album, Sinatra at the Sands, featuring the Count Basie Orchestra.
Written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer, “One More for My Baby” was first performed by Fred Astaire, but became a standard among singers of the era. As is often the case, Frank did it best—lending an air of authenticity to the long look back that often comes from a guy at a bar at the end of the night.
“I could tell you a lot, but that’s not in a gentleman’s code...”
