MO’ BOKEN: Hoboken Named as the Fastest-Growing City in New Jersey
The US Census Bureau recently released their annual population estimates for cities and towns across the country with at least 50,000 residents.
Based on that information, Business Insider did the math and determined that Hoboken was the fastest-growing city (based on population percentage) in New Jersey from 2015 to 2016—seeing a 1.5% increase in population over that period of time.
That puts the Hoboken population at 54,379, all packed into a square mile (actually, it’s 1.275 square miles… but who’s counting?). Pretty impressive numbers for a City that has spent decades trying to carve out its identity.
Plenty of factors contribute to that growth, and it’s no secret that Hoboken’s real estate has become some of the most coveted on the planet. Yet with that growth comes growing pains—notably chronic infrastructure issues and the odd flooding event.
Nevertheless, Hoboken continues to evolve—whether we like it or not. These issues and more will likely be key factors in the upcoming municipal elections (November 7, 2017).
Imagine if all those new residents actually voted???
