Center for Translational Orthodontic Research Opens CTOR Academy in Hoboken
(via press release)
The Center for Translational Orthodontic Research (CTOR) celebrated the grand opening of CTOR Academy in Hoboken on Wednesday. In attendance were Assemblywoman Annette Chaparro and Councilwoman Emily Jabbour.
CTOR, the only center in the world dedicated to Translational Research in Orthodontics, was founded a decade ago as a center for scientists and clinicians to drive innovation in Craniofacial Orthopedics and Orthodontics and turn scientific findings into improved patient care. CTOR will offer specialty training to dentists in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics through its education branch – only the second Orthodontics Specialty Program in the State of New Jersey.
“From our founding by the Stevens family to hosting the largest tech meetup in the state, Hoboken has a proud history of innovation and technology, and we continue to build upon that legacy with businesses like CTOR that are pushing the boundaries of science,” said Hoboken Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla, in a statement. “People from across the country travel to CTOR’s clinic in Hoboken to receive life-changing treatments made possible by their groundbreaking discoveries. It is an honor to celebrate their growth as they open only the second orthodontics specialty program in New Jersey where they will train the scientists of tomorrow.”
“While the field of Orthodontics has been nearly stagnant for almost a century, CTOR is making groundbreaking scientific advances that are already providing transformational benefits to our patients,” said Dr. Mani Alikhani, CEO of CTOR. “Patients with severe skeletal and dental problems who prefer to not have surgery come to our clinic in Hoboken to receive non-invasive treatment using current advances in science and technology. For our patients with braces, we know the profound impact of achieving a perfect smile in a much shorter time, using new technology that was not available before. We are proud to provide these transformative treatments to our patients and to celebrate the launch of our new Orthodontics Specialty Program to train clinician-scientists to further advance our knowledge of Orthodontics and bring advanced treatments to patients throughout the world.”
To date, CTOR’s research has resulted in 8 patents, with 3 of these innovations already commercially available to clinicians.
“CTOR Academy will be a beacon for orthodontic students who emphasize science in the pursuit of assisting their patients, and I couldn’t be happier to hear they’ve decided to expand here in Hoboken,” said Assemblywoman Annette Chaparro. “Our community is proud to have CTOR and I look forward to hearing about the great work they do to improve people’s lives through their innovative research and practices.”
CTOR clinics provide the most affordable Orthodontics care to the community. Dr. Alikhani is Professor and CEO of CTOR and faculty at Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
