Hoboken Police Department Ceremony Honors Six New Sergeants, One Lieutenant, and a Retirement

If you hear “God Bless America” played on a bagpipe, you know something special is going on.

In front of a standing-room-only crowd in City Council Chambers at City Hall on Tuesday afternoon, a promotions ceremony took place for seven members of the Hoboken Police Department.

The City’s Director of Public Safety, Jon Tooke, welcomed everyone. The first order of business was honoring Lieutenant Kevin Cruz, retiring after many years of dedicated service. Stevens Institute Chief of Police Tim Griffin read a proclamation, and Freeholder Anthony Romano added a few words of praise for Lieutenant Cruz.

Next came the promotions, with each individual reciting the oath of office for his new rank, joined by family members.

Sergeant John Petrosino was promoted to Lieutenant. Next, six Police Officers were promoted to Sergeant: Saverio R. Binetti, Jonathan Butler, Arbend Drishti, Edward M. Sellick, Steven C. Kranz, and Robert Fulton.

Mayor Dawn Zimmer and Police Chief Kenneth Ferrante thanked and congratulated the promotion recipients. After photos, smiles, handshakes, and hugs, the members of the Hoboken Police Department resumed protecting and serving.
