Fridays Are For Frank: “Love is Here to Stay”

“Love Is Here to Stay” was written by George Gershwin with crafty lyrics by Ira Gershwin for the 1938 movie The Goldwyn Follies. This was the last musical composition George Gershwin completed before his death on July 11, 1937—Ira wrote the words after George’s death as a tribute to his brother’s passing.

The song gained a lot of traction when it was performed by Gene Kelly in 1951’s An American in Paris. Frank Sinatra took a crack at it a few years later on his album Songs for Swingin’ Lovers! (1956), arranged by Nelson Riddle (pictured above, with Frank).

They certainly don’t write them like this anymore…
