Hailee Steinfeld as “Carrie Pilby”: Hoboken Novelist’s Film Adaptation to Shoot in May

Actress Hailee Steinfeld will star as the title character in Carrie Pilby—a film adaptation of the 2003 novel written by Hoboken author Caren Lissner.

Steinfeld is best known for her portrayal of Mattie Ross in the 2010 Coen Brothers version of True Grit.

Caren Lissner lives and works here in Hoboken, as the longtime editor of The Hudson Reporter community newspapers. Her young adult novel chronicles the life of an exceptionally smart young woman who graduates from Harvard at the age of 19, only to realize she has no idea how to adapt to everyday social scenarios.

Susan Johnson will be making her feature film directorial debut with Carrie Pilby, which is set to begin shooting in May.
