The U.S. Coast Guard has announced it has reluctantly suspended its search for Sinisa Bjelajac, 44, a Hoboken resident missing in the Atlantic Ocean off Sandy Hook, NJ.
Bjelajac is originally from Croatia, having moved to Hoboken from Brooklyn just a few months ago.
A boater reportedly tried to retrieve Bjelajac from the water after finding him unconscious Friday afternoon, but the rescue attempt was thwarted by Bjelajac’s kite surfing gear.
The New York Post reports that the Coast Guard had searched more than 150 square miles from New Jersey to Coney Island for over 30 combined hours but finally called off the hunt at 3:30 p.m.
